Course Exemption

COURSE TRANSFER EXEMPTION:

"Transfer Exemption:" when a previous college-level course meets the learning objectives of EPIC 151 or 251.

Application Steps:

1) Please review the EPIC 151 and 251 Learning Outcomes before applying for a transfer.

2) Gather all supporting documentation needed before starting the application:

     - Syllabus (If you do not have a course syllabus, please contact your previous instituion to obtain a copy)

   - Proto-type photos

     - Written reports

     - PowerPoint, presentations, etc.

    Note: Submitting applications without sufficient supporting documentation will slow down the review process and may render your application unprocessable.

3) Click on appropriate link at the bottom of the page to start the application.

4) You will receive a confirmation e-mail once your e-mail has been verified as complete.

5) You will receive an e-mail confirming whether your transfer exemption has been granted.  Applications take two to four weeks to process assuming application is complete.

WORK EXPERIENCE EXEMPTION:

"Work Exemption:" when a student has at least 3-4 years of full-time experience* in industry that satisfies the EPIC 151 or 251 learning objectives.

*Does not include internships

Steps:

1) Please review the EPIC 151 and 251 Learning Outcomes before applying for an exemption.

2) Gather any supporting documentation you might need before starting the application (Photos, written reports, etc.)

   - Resume

3) Click on appropriate link at the bottom of the page to start the application.

4) You will receive a confirmation e-mail once your e-mail has been verified as complete.

5) You will receive an e-mail confirming whether your work experience exemption has been granted. Applications take two to four weeks to process assuming application is complete.

6) If you are granted a work experience exemption, you must fill the 3-credit hours with a course that meets the following criteria:

  • Technical course
  • Not required by your major
  • Not a core or foundational cours

MILITARY EXPERIENCE EXEMPTION:

"Military Exemption:" when a student's work experience in the military satisfies the EPIC 151 or 251 learning objectives.

Steps:

1) Please review the EPIC 151 and 251 Learning Outcomes before applying for an exemption.

2) Gather any supporting documentation you might need before starting the application (Photos, written reports, etc.)

   - DD 214

   - Resume

3) Click on appropriate link at the bottom of the page to start the application.

4) You will receive a confirmation e-mail once your e-mail has been verified as complete.

5) You will receive an e-mail confirming whether your military experience exemption has been granted. Applications take two to four weeks to process assuming application is complete.

6) If you are granted a military experience exemption, you must fill the 3-credit hours with a course that meets the following criteria:

  • Technical course
  • Not required by your major
  • Not a core or foundational cours

Generally, 200, 300 and 400 level courses are acceptible, however, please confirm that the course will substitute before taking the class.  It is highly advised that you have an EDS staff member sign off on a course before taking the course.

NOTES: An exemption or transfer for EPIC 251 does not automatically grant you a transfer or exemption from EPIC 151.  You must apply separately for EPIC 151 and 251 transfers/exemptions.  You may not transfer the same course for an EPIC 151 and 251 -- you must submit two separate applications with two separate courses.
